About me
Hi, I’m Anna Ahveninen. I’m a storyteller, writer and science communicator.
I turn technical information into accessible, accurate and engaging content. I love to work with academics to tell stories about research, from chemical engineering to art conservation.
I have 10 years of communications and marketing experience in higher education and not-for-profit organisations. I’m also a science graduate with chemistry research experience.
I’ve managed robust content review and approval processes to ensure researchers are happy with how their work is represented.
I’ve communicated sensitive topics like mental health, vaccinations and climate change with audiences who have occasionally been antagonistic. And I’m great at spotting left-handed DNA in stock images.

Achievements

I delivered 45 profiles of University of Melbourne graduate researchers and alumni in one year, achieving a consistent engagement rate of 75-90% and a read time of more than 3 minutes.

Within 6 months, I edited, managed approvals for and published more than 60 pages of content for a subscriber-only school resource evaluating randomised controlled trials at Deakin University.

I wrote the University of Melbourne’s defence research positioning statement. And I planned, developed, designed and published its associated web content.

My article about choosing hand sanitiser or soap was viewed more than 45,000 times in its year of publication.
